Tips on Photographing Your Home
You already know how to make your home more appealing to the eye. You’ve repainted the walls, rearranged the furniture pieces, removed personal mementos, and brought in warmth by the use of plants and flowers. Now you have to attend to the daunting task of taking a snapshot of your home.
Is it necessary to take a photo of your home? Yes, it is necessary. You will need the photo when you place an advertisement in the newspaper, or to make flyers from your home computer. You will also probably want to have a visual reminder of the place that sheltered you and your family for many years.
Though real estate agents have in house photographers, and there are amateur photographers who would be willing to take photos for you, doing it yourself would save you time and money.
If you want to take great photos of your home, the best times to take these are between 7 and 10 o’clock in the morning, and 3 and 6 o’clock in the afternoon. The light during these periods are not too harsh and cast a warm glow that is flattering to the eye.
Try to have a foreground (a plant, fence) and a background in every photo to give each picture a sense of depth. Try too, to find a "natural’ frame for the focal point (tree branches, flowers). Sometimes, if these props are unavailable, the shadows cast by a light source would suffice.
Finally, just snap away. Keep taking photos until you find a few that satisfy you. With the advent of digital cameras, taking photographs has never been cheaper and more fun. You are not constrained with the number of exposures. You can easily download the photos from your computer to have it printed or mailed out as email attachments.
