Letting go of a house is a big decision and many people agonize over finding the right person to handle all the procedures. Naturally, you want your home to be transferred to someone who would care for it, the same way you do. You would want a realtor who would treat your home as if it were his own.

Finding the right realtor is no easy task. There are several real estate companies and even more real estate agents. All of these would be glad to transact business in your behalf. How do you narrow down the choices until you finally select the perfect one?

First, is you select which real estate company you feel comfortable dealing with. Once you’ve chosen a Realtor, you may ask the company to provide you with a list of recommended real estate agents. When you have this list, you make ask to have a meeting with the agents you have pre-selected and conduct an interview. Know more about the real estate agent by asking questions that will reveal his individual personality, professional capabilities and achievements, and may give you an insight on the kind of person you will be dealing with.

Whatever it is you need to know about your agent, you should ask during your meeting. Usual questions include how long he has been an agent and whether or not he is doing this in a full time or part time capacity; if has he received any real estate awards; what are his office hours (is he readily reachable)? While you’re interviewing him, do you feel that he is according you enough respect?

As much as possible, try to defer discussions of the house until you have selected someone you would like to work with. Only when you feel secure about leaving the "future" of your house in his able hands, do you enter an agreement with a realtor.
